What Somatic Work Is—and Who It's For. 

 

Somatic work is all about connecting with your body in a deep, meaningful way. It’s not just exercise, yoga, or stretching—it’s a practice of noticing how your body feels, how it carries your emotions, memories, and experiences, and learning to respond rather than react.

Think of your body as a wise companion, constantly sending messages. Tight shoulders? That tension might be carrying worry or old stress. A flutter in your chest? Maybe that’s excitement—or something unresolved waiting for your attention. Somatic work helps you listen, understand, and respond to these signals with curiosity and care.

This work is for anyone who wants to feel more at home in their own skin, reclaim a sense of safety in the body, and navigate life with clarity and ease. It’s for people who want to:

  • Calm anxiety and find steadiness in the chaos

  • Heal from past experiences that still live in the body

  • Connect more fully with their intuition, emotions, and relationships

You don’t need to be flexible, fit, or even “good” at movement. You just need a willingness to notice, breathe, and be present.

Somatic work is all about connecting with your body’s wisdom to help you feel safe, grounded, and fully alive. “Somatic” comes from the Greek word soma, meaning “the body,” and in this practice, the body is seen as a guide—not just a vessel.

Through gentle movement, breath, touch, and awareness exercises, somatic work helps you notice sensations, release tension, and regulate your nervous system. It’s a way to process emotions, heal from past experiences, and respond to life with clarity instead of reactivity.

My name is Cherie Kaplan – Somatic Guide & Creator of She Stands

For two decades, I’ve been helping people navigate life with presence, courage, and clarity. I’m a death doula, somatic therapist in training, meditator, and social movement facilitator, blending heart-centered practices with somatic awareness, ritual, and creative exploration.

​

My work is about helping you feel safe and at home in your body. My hope is for you to trust your inner guidance, and discover a deep intimate relationship with life. I combine somatic techniques, mindfulness, polyvagal theory, and play to create experiences that help you move through life with confidence, resilience, and grace.

​

I founded She Stands to bring people together in collective healing and presence, and I continue to create workshops and offerings that help people reclaim trust in themselves and their communities. Whether through a small intimate circle, a 6-week workshop, or a large-scale gathering, my mission is to support you in being the healthiest and wisest human you can possibly be.
